This screening is part is Idle No More Week UofT (March 18-23).
Idle No More Week UofT is a broad coalition of indigenous and non-indigenous U of T students and education workers have come together to organize a series of events on campus in support of the Idle No More movement and indigenous sovereignty more generally. **Kanawayandan d'aaki - Protecting Our Land (short film)**
We will precede our feature film with a recent 2012 short, Kanawayandan D'aaki: Protecting our Land. This film is about the resistance of the Kitchenuhmaykoosib Inninuwug (KI) community who refused to allow mining exploration on their land which would also threaten the water supply.
**Kanehsatake: 270 Years of Resistance**
This award-winning documentary by Alanis Obomsawin focuses on the 78 day stand off in 1990 between the Mohawk Nation determined to protect their land versus the Canadian state. More detailed description and trailer: http://www.cinemapolitica.org/film/kanehsatake-270-years-resistance

Our film screenings aim to engage students and the community in critical issues surrounding equity and environmental justice. We seek to accomplish this by following each screening with a discussion about how the content of the film relates to our own experiences and what action we can take collectively.
