Idle No More Week UofT is a broad coalition of indigenous and non-indigenous U of T students and education workers have come together to organize a series of events on campus in support of the Idle No More movement and indigenous sovereignty more generally. Located under Alberta’s pristine boreal forests, the process of oil sands extraction uses up to 4 barrels of fresh water to produce only one barrel of crude oil. It goes without saying that water — its depletion, exploitation, privatization and contamination — has become the most important issue to face humanity in this century. Cinema Politica UofT is an initiative of the Graduate Students' Union, University of Toronto. We screen films that challenge conventional narratives and that explore under-represented stories. Our film screenings aim to engage students and the community in critical issues surrounding equity and environmental justice. We seek to accomplish this by following each screening with a discussion about how the content of the film relates to our own experiences and what action we can take collectively.
