Do all your female friends say you ‘mansplain’ things or talk down to them? Do you call yourself a manarchist? Do you know some men that really, really, really need to read a book on feminism or get called on their BS behaviour? Then we have good news:

The Men and Patriarchy (MAP) working group is looking for new members!

MAP is a group of male-identified folks in Toronto that meet once every two weeks to discuss readings on patriarchy and feminism. We also do some internal workshops, movie nights and anti-sexist work in the community.

Originally a project of the Toronto Anarchist Free school, MAP has been around for 3 years and is currently a collection of people trying to create a space for folks to discuss and fight patriarchy internally and externally. This is also a space designed for folks to “work on their shit”.

We do a lot of reading and talking about sexism and patriarchy and we think this is important.  Our reading and discussion tries to incorporate other power relationships including colonialism, racism, classism, ableism, and hetero- and cis-sexism. No previous knowledge is needed: we are looking to work with everyone in thinking through these issues regardless of experience or background.

Interested in coming or recommending someone to the group?  Please contact maptoronto@gmail.com if you have questions or accessibility concerns and check out menandpatriarchy.wordpress.com for more info.

Thanks,

Men and Patriarchy Working Group
