WHEN: WEDNESDAY 7 JULY 2010

WHERE: WATERLOO TOWN SQUARE and various locations

TIME: 4PM-6PM

There is a tremendous community bursting in Kitchener-Waterloo that believes another world is possible.

On Wednesday July 7, 2010 citizens from K-W who had their rights violated in Toronto at the G20 are organising a rally and a march to speak out against police repression, violence, and the violations of civil liberties. We will be starting at Waterloo Town Square and marching to various locations in uptown Waterloo. This will be a family friendly march with music, poetry, food, speeches and balloons.

The G20 in Toronto saw the largest mass arrest in Canadian history and fundamental violations of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. From 21-27 June citizens organising around the G20 in Toronto were harassed, illegally searched and had their property illegally seized, women were sexually assaulted, the police used excessive force, and thousands witnessed the horrendous conditions in the makeshift Film Studio detention camp for protestors.

Citizens from K-W were there and were victims of all the above. We think this is unacceptable and flies in the face of the values within a democracy. There was a clear targeted attack on dissent and a clear attack on K-W residents and community organizers for their political beliefs. We are community organizers, we work at community gardens, we work with marginalized peoples, we provide free education, and we work to build another world through redistributive social, political, economic, and cultural justice.

Come join us as we stand up and speak out against this injustice and stand in solidarity with those who are still imprisoned. We will not be silenced and we will take this experience and continue building better communities. We have come out stronger and more determined than ever.

If you are a musician, a poet, or would like to speak at the rally please RSVP. If your group, organization, etc. wishes to endorse the rally please RSVP as well. If you wish to attend, please RSVP so we may know how much food to prepare.

Bring banners, signs, placards, or whatever else you feel will help express your opinions. See you in the streets!

Pass this on to anyone or any organization that will be interested.

Help us spread the word that Toronto would never in a million years allow for its citizens to be abused by out of control cops and secret laws so we can get people to come and shop and spend big money again in Toronto!

Thanks in advance.
