The Toronto Media Co-op is seeking a student for our Membership and Admin Coordinator position this summer. Our deadline to apply has now been extended!

DURATION: 8 week contract
SALARY: $11/hour
LOCATION: Toronto
EXTENDED DEADLINE TO APPLY: Saturday June 20th 2015 at 11:59pm
START DATE: June 24, 2015

 

This position is funded through the Canada Summer Jobs program and therefore applicants must be returning full time students under 30 years of age who are Canadian citizens, permanent residents or refugees legally able to work in Canada. 

 

Are you interested in being a paid journalist? The Toronto Media Co-op is looking for someone interested in covering social movements and grassroots initiatives in Toronto and to engage in outreach and membership development. 

 

DUTIES: 

  • create news content for the Toronto Media Co-op website and print content, including news articles, photo essays and audio/video recordings on local news and events
  • cover social movements and community initiatives on a wide range of activities
  • help with the administration of the website, including copyediting, moderating and updating events
  • help maintain our social media presence
  • work collectively with TMC editors, Media Co-op staff and other TMC members
  • outreach to community organizations and groups such as those that focus on migrant justice, anti-poverty groups, youth groups, indigenous people in Toronto, persons with disabilities and other marginalized groups (people of colour, queer people, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS

  • education or experience in journalism, non-profit administration or communications is an asset
  • experience in working with grassroots community organizing and/or community grassroots media organizations
  • good writing and presentation skills and/or good photography or videography skills: ability to present complex stories to readers in a clear and accessible manner
  • ability to take initiative and work independently
