Mock wedding between Minister and Enbridge

On January 27th a crowd gathered outside the Sutton Place Hotel, in Toronto, to protest the Enbridge Gateway Pipeline, despite heavy sleet. A mock wedding between Joe Oliver the Minister of Natural Resources, and Enbridge was held ahead of a talk by Oliver.

The protest comes after documents revealed the Canadian government views environmental groups and native groups as "adversaries" and "enemies" and oil companies as allies.

“Canadians should be concerned when a supposedly arms-length agency that is supposed to regulate the oil industry, including conducting hearings on the Enbridge’s proposed new tar sands pipeline across British Columbia, is listed as an ‘ally’ in a political strategy to lower environmental standards in other nations,” said Keith Stuart of Greenpeace.

"He met 32 times with oil and gas companies and never with environmental groups, according to the lobbyist registry," Stuart told the Toronto Media Co-op. As the crowd dispersed Stuart entered the hotel, stating he planned to approach Oliver after his speech and give him a copy of Greenpeace's "Energy Revolution" plan.
