Reflections on past social forums and possible outcomes

CKUT's news collective spoke with Judy Rebick, the founder of Rabble.ca, and a life-long feminist activist, at the People's Social Forum in Ottawa. Rebick reflected on previous failed attempts at organizing a cross-Canada social forum, and why this one worked at this moment in history. She also shared her hopes and organizing visions for what could come out of the PSF.

On May 14th, over a thousand people gathered in Ottawa for a Day of National Resistance organized to protest against recent government relations with First Nations people. There were also many companion events organized across the country. The protest was centered on three key issues.

OTTAWA – After a peaceful demonstration at Parliament Hill on May 5th, one of the protest's organizers - who is also the founder of the Occupy Canada Facebook page – was arrested after taking to the streets. Derek Soberal, of Toronto, was detained overnight by Ottawa Police and released on $500 bail the next day.
