AW@L Radio: I'm the Other Kind - A Discussion with Ward Churchill

A talk w/ Indigenous scholar + international troublemaker Ward Churchill on subversive thought, state repression, indigenous resistance, non-native solidarity, , lists, DoT, + more.

by AW@L RadioDan KellarGrand River Media Collective

In February 2011, Indigenous scholar and international trouble maker Ward Churchill was in toronto to speak with Angela Davis at the keynote for the university of toronto's student union's annual expression against oppression social justice week.

AW@L Radio was lucky enough to arrange an interview with Ward while he was in town.  While bail conditions kept co-host Alex Hundert from making the interview, dan was able to sit down with Ward for an hour to discuss criminalisation of dissent and subversive thought; the ongoing use of the so-called "justice" system to stifle grassroots movements; the absurdity of the diversity of tactics debate; the role for non-native allies in the rising wave of Indigenous resistance; the complex simplicity of decolonisation; and more.

In short order the interview file was corrupted and the interview thought loss forever.  After repeated attempts and failures (on our sub-par equipment), we have finally been able to restore the file, and are now proud to present the full interview with Ward Churchill, whose words are as timely and important no as when this interview was first undertaken.

**Trigger Warning** We wanted to add a trigger warning on this piece: just past minute 6 there is a brief connection made between defending the land and ones culture, and defending against rape.  This discussion lasts for 1 minute and 20 seconds.

This interview first aired on the weekly 2 hour AW@L radio (16:00-18:00est) on CKMS 100.3FM * Community * Co-op * Campus * Radio - Waterloo - http://soundfm.ca
