Breaking story, check back to Toronto Media Co-op for updates, Shannon Chief of the Algonquin Traditional Women's Council reports that $1.5 Million deal has been reached between Barriere Lake and the Ministry of Natural Resources to allow for continued logging of unceeded territory and traditional lands.
From Shannon Chief:
"Traditional Council of Elders and women have taken a march in the area of Poigan today in our unceded Algonquin Territory. When territories was given to our passed on elders..it wasnt to own the territory but a duty to safeguard the land..today the women have taken a step to honour our ancestors, Mother Earth and its all its creation..Its to nobally bring back the duty to safeguard the land witout making any agreements for $$$ and only to stop all logging activities that endangers our way of life and culture for future generations to carry on.."

Urgent Callout to all First Nations
July 14 & 15, 2010
Location: Km 322, (Highway 117, 7 km south of Le Domain Quebec) Wigobiwajak \ a.k.a Airport– In heartland of the Anishnabe Territory
This urgent call is from the Traditional Elders and people also known as the People of the One Nation. The urgency is request the support needed to help protect our lands from the log cutting activities and the unsolicited Mining Projects that is being enforced by the provincial and federal government.
It is open to the Six Nations, Crees, Ojibways, Micmacs, Innus, Attikameks and so on. So many plans have been made ahead of our time that is currently being enforced without our consensus. The plans being applied within our lands will strongly affect our future within our lands, and importantly causing a direct impact to our cultural and traditional ways of living.
Our rights as First Nations is currently being undertaken to be abolished and our voices today is ignored. Therefor we feel that if can unite as one to begin to establish unity, alliance, find ways how to assist to each other’s needs to protect/defend the land for the security of our future generations and important the wellbeing of our Mother Earth.
It may be our final attempt to be understood by the governments that we stand firmly as One Nation to protect our lands, and it our role to teach what kindness and respect our Mother Earth deserves today. We say NO to the Mining Plans and log cutting actions!!! We wont let it remain until a consensus has been made agreeable to all neighboring First Nations.
