This interview originally aired on September 9th, 2014 on CHRY 105.5FM on the station's daily news program, News Now. Host and Producer Maggie Reid spoke with Jamie Kneen of Mining Watch Canada about Oceana Gold, a Canadian/Australian mining company known for their human rights abuses abroad. We spoke about Oceana Gold's 300 million dollar lawsuit with the El Salvador government for not allowing the company to access gold deposits in the northern part of the country. The company has persisted in their battle with the El Salvador government despite the overwhelmingly negative responses to the company's plan by civil society groups in the region as well as compelling evidence that this mine would contaminate up to 60% of the population's drinking water. Jamie spoke about what we can do to further educate ourselves on this issue, protest the company's actions, and what he expects will emerge from the World Bank Tribunal that will be judging this case.
