From the June 14th 2013 edition of AW@L Radio – In the final push for the Indiegogo campaign, the last bit of Test Their Logik's Recover starts of the show and we jump into the pre-demo announcement for the #countMeIn rally held by extend a family waterloo region.
Staying in the region, we go to another march, where a solidarity tent city and night marchwas called for july 17th in Kitchener, to support those in Ireland being repressed by G8 police forces and the PSNI, in the lead up to and during the G8 summit. Dan reads the call out - "Let us unite to resist war and austerity"
And going to more police state news, in the fallout of the PRISM leaks in the states, it has been revealed that canada's megametadata collection system has been running full tilt for quite some time - operated by the communication establishment security canada thing. THEY TOLD US THEY WERE GOING TO DO THIS (vision 2010 documents and total spectrum domination - SPP), and the simpsons joked about it in their movie. LETS ALL START USING ENCRYPTION, OK??
Alex Hickey's "Can't get rich on shattered land" leads into an update on the resisting to fracking in new brunswick where indigenous and non-native people have been working to stop seismic testing (that would lead to fracking if exploitable reserves are found), and they have been getting arrested for their efforts. A sacred fire was lit at the crossroads of hwy 126 and 116 in the eastern province.
TarSandsBlockade.org has revealed that the transcanada pipeline corp has been training cops in Nebraska to treat pipeline blockaders and activists as terrorists despite their explicit dedication to non-violent direct action. As pipeline resistance heats up in Ontario, we talk about similarities in reasons to resist the pipelines wherever you are. Dan talks about the line6b Kalamazoo pipeline rupture in 2010, the 2013 mayflower Pegasus break and the pending reversal of the flow of oil in line 9 in southern Ontario to carry tar sands oil east.
We play Janice Lee’s Capitalise then move into an interview with the KW based musician and spoken word artist. In the interview we discuss Janice’s recent western tour, where she took part in the the Banff spoken word program among other hightlights. Janice also treats us to a new piece called Open Your Eyes Wide, reads about George Orwell’s political purpose from her chat book, and we talk about artistic resistance and art as an outlet.
Before ending the show with a song featuring Janice (War on Us by Test Their Logik), we talk about the June 22nd show in Kitchener with Tru Rez crew, Awasis, David James Hudson, and other great artists.
