What’s happening?

A fun and interactive orientation to grassroots media in Toronto, the work that the Toronto Media Co-op does and how you can contribute! Refreshments & snacks provided.

Don't let news fall through the cracks!

Join us at our Toronto Media Co-op (TMC) new contributors meeting to learn what’s happening in Toronto and collaborate on coverage for upcoming events and topics of interest. The meeting will start with a new members orientation including a talk about what exciting things we’ve covered in the past for those who aren’t familiar with the TMC.

If you're into writing, photography, video, sound recording, illustrating, editing, reading, social media, event planning, fundraising or just plain talking to people... there's a place for you with the TMC! All levels of experience are welcome.

Hope to see you there!

What is the Toronto Media Co-op?

You may remember us from such events as covering the 2010 Toronto G20 protests, live on the ground reporting for and about Occupy Toronto and more...

The Toronto Media Co-op is a grassroots co-operative news organization aimed at providing a space for news for and from communities that are organizing against oppression. We’ve published thousands of alternative media news articles covering social movements and important events along with investigative journalism pieces. We see our publication as a model to counter corporatized media and “fill in the gaps”, as an institution that can be used by social movements to create and learn to create media and as a collaborative space. The TMC is also a volunteer run local bureau of the national Media Co-op which publishes The Dominion magazine.

The Toronto Media Co-op meets regularly on Mondays at 6:30 pm at Harvest Noon (upstairs at 16 Bancroft Ave - GSU Building, University of Toronto). We also host occasional dedicated times for new contributors and informal educational workshops on journalistic topics and skills. Watch Toronto Media Co-op for more info.
