AW@L Radio - Smash the State Report: Apr. 12, 2013 - 1 - End Police-Prison Impunity

From the April 12th 2013 edition of AW@L Radio -  Show starts with a quick note on a "hands off venezuela" rally held in uptown Waterloo to remind folks that canada should not impose on the sovereignty of the venezuelan people.

We then jump to a bit of an ACAB update looking at the 3.4 million dollars that the waterloo regional police services went gross over their 134 million dollar yearly budget.  the over-budgeting was blamed on extra overtime fees, sick-day payouts for retirees (like what teachers used to get...), and a retroactive raise that the police force were awarded despite growing numbers of incidents of violence and other misconducts coming from the police force.

We move then to montreal, but stay with hating the cops for the next 4 stories.  We note the annual Vigial held on april 5th to comemmorate Fredy Villenueva who was murdered by montreal police several years ago while playing in a park.  Then the show plays a piece from the Free Speech Radio News from Aaron Lakoff looking at protests to Montreal by-law P-6 which has been used to pre-arrest and kettle protestors who refuse to give the polcie a route plan.  The show also notes the arrest of a womyn in Montreal for posting a photo of graffiti she found in her neighbourhood up on the net, then moves into a story on Anarcho Panda, and how the protest mascot is even more dangerous after police decapitated him and stole the bears head.  Mtl police note that "people do not have a right to protest", while the people note that we seem only to have the right to be gouged.  To close of the Mtl update, we play another a bit from piece of audio called Stories from Inside the Kettle.

Moving to Toronto, we ask where is the accountability for the G20 policing tactics which included arresting anyone with a bandana and kettling large crowds of people and holding them for hours or days, most of the time without charge.  The sun news reports that officers taht have been chraged for one incident under the police services act claim the rodeer mane from higher up.

Staying with with police impunity, we join the call of the Justice for Levi coalition to demand Justice for our Communities, not police impunity!  There is a call out for support funds to help battle the supreme court challenge on the ability for cops to vet their notes witha lawyer before wirting them up.

We then move the a pice from recently released AW@L radio co-host Alex Hundert, who had a piece released in the BriarPatch Magazine days before he was freed from his abduction by the state.  The piece Down in A Hole, looks at the downward spiral faced by many of those taken into the isolation units in prison - noting high incidents of mental health realities as well asbuse, neglect, and other violences undertaken by many guards.  Alex suggests people read Nyki Kish's blog for more discussion on the issue.

We then go to AntLoc of Savage Fam with a new badass track linked to on submedia.tv/stimulator.

Coming back we note the continued resistance of jailed Pussy Riot members then go to a petition to free jailed american lawyer Lynn Stewart who has stage 4 breast cancer and is being kept in jail by a torturous asshole: barack obama.
