With student and public unrest rising all over the world in the past decade, building horizontal and grassroots organizing spaces has become increasingly important. At the same time, as education becomes less accessible and increasingly consumed by capitalism, existing centralized organizing models fail to meet student needs. Panelists will reflect on the histories and models of grassroots organizing in Ontario and Quebec, with a particular focus on directly democratic General Assemblies. This will lead to a strategizing session on how to engage with organizing and moving forward departmental, campus, and community assembly models.
