In less than one year, the Toronto Media Co-op (TMC) has established itself as a hub for the sort of critical news coverage that our city needs. I'm writing to invite you to become a part of building the co-op.

Whether reporting on the impacts of the G20 summit, exploring the Toronto Stock Exchange, or covering the recent municipal election, not only are we reporting on issues that are important to Toronto, but we are also covering those stories in a way that goes beyond the coverage of mainstream media. And we will keep growing, covering more of the un(der)-reported stories in our city that aren't getting the critical attention they deserve.

To those who have been a part of that growth, thank you for your commitment and support!

To those who have not yet joined the Co-op, now is the time! This month, we are asking you to own your mediaby becoming a sustaining member of Media Co-op with a monthly pledge of between $5 and $50.

It's easy! And the benefits are countless:

The Toronto Media Co-op is part of a network of Media Co-op Locals across the country, with other Locals in VancouverHalifax and soon in Montreal. The Media Co-op network was formed by The Dominion newspaper as a multi-stakeholder co-operative, where editors, contributors and readers are members and accountable to each other.

This means when you become a sustainer of the Toronto Media Co-op, you also become an owner of The Dominion, and the national Media Co-op network. Half of your money will stay in Toronto to help fund local news coverage, and the other half will help support our national efforts. You will be kept abreast of the Co-op’s operations, and your concerns and questions will be addressed directly. You can vote on the direction of the Co-op at the Annual General Meeting, and can participate in our participatory budget process.

Sustainers not only get the satisfaction of supporting grassroots media, but also receive a subscription to The Dominion, and can receive a free t-shirt,  and sponsor a gift subscription for a friend, among other perks.

Click here more information on becoming a sustainer.

If you value the media we are making, and you are able to become a sustainer, we would greatly appreciate your support!

Whether or not you are able to support us financially, you can always contribute in other ways. You can click here to register for an account that will allow you to post your stories to the TMC site. If you want to receive email announcements, volunteer, get involved, or have feedback for us, you can fill out this form or better yet send as an email to torontomediacoop [at] gmail [.] com.

Consider what independent journalism is worth to you. Then, head here to check out options for sustaining critical, independent media.

Thank you for your time, attention and any support you can give.
