I interviewed Cheri DiNovo on Sunday June 27 at approximately 3PM, outside the Convergence Centre on Queen Street West where peaceful citizens and protesters of the G20 were being illegally detained and randomly arrested by police and ISU, in continuation of their campaign to demonize and criminalize dissent.
Here are just a few quotes, some idea of what Cheri has to say:
"...I just find this appalling...I feel sad about the entire weekend--thousands of peaceful protesters completely ignored by the mainstream media...It's very clear from the weekend that these streets are not our streets, they belong to the police...this is not democracy, this is a very, very sad day...I haven't seen this kind of reaction against protesters since the 60's...our politicians and the media must be held accountable...I firmly place the blame at the levels of government, both the provincial and federal government...putting this kind of money into security, instead of housing...Queen's Park secretly extending police powers...the blame really needs to be in the corridors of power..."
Cheri DiNovo shows the rest of Canada why the NDP will NEVER be more than a fringe party
All of what Cheri DiNovo stated is what any intelligent, logical, and reasonable person would think and state, NDP or not.
In general Cheri DiNovo is a "progressive" politician - but not when it comes to Israel/Palestine. I will defend her right to her opnion any day - but at the same time she cannot side with Zionism and support the censorship of groups and individuals using the word "anti-apartheid" and then expect everything to carry on as normal. I'm happy she has decided to offer some crticism of the police and corporate media - but I don't think many people are going to forget her cheerleading for Israel. (for the record - I am an athiest and not a supporter of Hamas or the PLO - I am a member of the Amnesty International and I also support the Palestine National Initiative)

That statement is contradictory, you begin with stating "I will defend her right to her opnion any day" then you contradict that with stating that "she cannot side with Zionism" If you were running things how democratic would you be - not!
