Sunday, June 27, 6:30pm - Day 2 of Toronto Police Services' loss of control over much of downtown Toronto during the unpopular, $1.2B G20 summit.
The stationary crowd of about 100 appeared spontaneous and unorganized, simply holding the trendy Queen & Peter intersection and chanting through a very heavy rainstorm until they were charged by riot police.
Hundreds of police including mounted units surrounding the group locked down several blocks in all directions, including alleys. Buses used to transport detainees were visibly parked in the area.
The crowd chanted "peaceful protest!" as one man played a hand drum. More quietly, many expressed alarm that police appeared to be blocking all escape routes.
After a long stand-off without any communication or warning, police in riot gear including gas masks charged into the crowd swinging batons and screaming at people, driving them North - directly into another column of riot police emerging from Bulwer St.
