On September 18, 2012, Julian Ichim, a comrade from Kitchener-Waterloo and member of the Anti-Colonial Working Group, began his hearing process, up on three charges of disobeying a court order.
The charge is related to a 2010 incident where, in the wake of widespread police infiltration and repression leading up to the G20 summit in Toronto, Ichim allegedly made a post in his blog exposing an undercover police agent.
At a press conference prior to the trial, Ichim (speaking through a representative) described the charges as a retaliation for his "refus[al] to allow the state to hide and cover up the truth about the infiltration and criminalization of those who reject the imperialist aspirations of the criminal conspirators called 'The G20'".
The repression being brought down against Julian is part and parcel to a larger trend of what Ichim called "severe political repression at home, and war and nation-wrecking abroad" and is one of several targeted political arrests over the past few years in Canada.
The crown will be proceeding to indict Julian.
