SOS condemns Toronto Police - Free Kelly
FREE KELLY
Today at around 3 oclock Kelly Rose Pflug Back turned herself into
Peterbourough police, less then a hour after Toronto Police gave a
press conference stating that Kelly was wanted for 6 counts of
Mischief over $5000. Our heart goes out to our comrade who is
currently in police custody waiting for a bail hearing.
Kelly is an amazing community organizor who has started many community programs in Guelph and surrounding areas. SOS will not leave our comrade out to dry and will stick with her through this. Ironically, Kelly was
already out on bail for charges that include conspiracy from the g20
and police already knew where to find her. The fact that they did not
wait for Kelly to return home from peterbourough and issued there
statement aimed at demonizing her shows that police would rather
sensationalize and create a media circus around activists as oppossed
to dealing with these issues in a fair and logical manner.
Rather then allowing the trial to take place in the court, Toronto Police instead chose to have a trial by media sensationalizing her case through words
such as "ringleader" and most wanted. Previous aressted people have
had publication bans on there bail hearings specifically to stop the
media from ruining there chances at a fair trial. With her face
spalshed on the cover of every news station not only lost her chance
at a fair trial in court, but is already convicted in the minds of the
majority of those who follow the media as a criminal, radical and
terrorist.
SOS condemns this behaviour by the police to criminalize our comrade and we stand tall with Kelly, proud to call her our comrade!!!!!

Likeness splashed all over the corporate media, name shared with the whole country, proscribed by the police and tried in the media is a fate shared by many people. It's wrong and I'm surprised no one has spoken out about the targeting of twenty-something year old men, many of them of colour. I think that the left is missing a crucial opportunity to speak out in a critical and contextualized way about what passes for police investigation in this city.
